(Photo by Dursun Aydemir/Anadolu via Getty Images) Hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Nicaragua's claim that Germany is helping Israel in the ongoing genocide in the blockaded Gaza Strip The Middle website East Monitor said South Africa's genocide case against Israel over its ongoing war on Gaza has in recent months transformed into a major global issue after a group of countries submitted a formal application to join South Africa, or have announced their intention to do so. The International Court of Justice issued a preliminary ruling in the case in late January and ordered Israel to take all measures in its power to prevent acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention. She also ordered Tel Aviv to prevent and punish genocide. ensure the delivery of aid to Gaza. Preserve evidence of crimes committed in the devastated area. Read also Haaretz: Israel's policy regarding aid to Gaza is a shame and chaos An article published in The Independent: the ban imposed by Israel on the island is a habit of tyrants Since the first judgments, several countries intervened in this case using a clause in the Statute of the International Court of Justice which allows third parties to join the proceedings if they believe they have "a legal interest likely to be affected by any decision in the case . Formally intervening Nicaragua was the first country to submit a formal request to the UN Supreme Court on January 23 for permission to intervene as a "party" in the case, as indicated a press release published by the Court on February 8. Nicaragua said in its application that it has "interests of a legal nature which arise from the rights and obligations imposed by the Genocide Convention on all States parties", and added that it considers Israel's conduct to be “a violation of its obligations under the Genocide Convention”. Convention." Nicaragua then filed a separate request to file a complaint against Germany on March 1, accusing it of violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention and "facilitating the commission of genocide" by "providing political, financial and military support to Israel” and withholding funding from the United Nations relief agency and employment for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The International Court of Justice heard the latest case last April. , but rejected the request for emergency measures against Germany After Nicaragua, Colombia applied to the International Court of Justice last April to request authorization to intervene, urging the Court to guarantee "security and even the existence of the Palestinian people. and the elderly,” she said. The third country that submitted a formal request for intervention in this matter is Libya, which submitted a statement to the International Court of Justice on May 10, and said in its statement that Israel's actions in Gaza "are of a genocidal character.
Intention to intervene The day before Monday, the Maldives confirmed its intention to intervene, and the presidency said in a statement that the decision was taken "on the basis that Israel is violating the Convention for the Prevention and Control of repression of the crime of genocide", and accused him of having committed "acts of genocide...under the cover of security concerns" which "led to massive displacements, severe famine and the obstruction of humanitarian aid ". Egypt announced its intention to join the case against Israel, and the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision was made "in light of the increasing seriousness and scale of Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the systematic targeting of civilians. and the destruction of infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The ministry said these actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 concerning the protection of civilian persons during war, and called on Israel to respect its obligations and the temporary measures ordered. by the International Court. of Justice. On May 1, Turkey announced its intention to intervene in the genocide case against Israel, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said his country hoped its intervention would help ensure that the case before the international court of Justice “is moving in the right direction”. added that Ankara is working on this matter. She has been working on this case "for a very long time" and will soon finish her legal work. From Europe, two countries have expressed their intention to intervene in the case, with Ireland announcing on March 27 that it would join the case, and Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin stating that officials had received instructions “to begin work on an intervention statement.” “It is up to the court to determine whether genocide was committed or not. But I want to be clear by repeating what I have said repeatedly over the past few months: what we saw on October 7 in Israel and what we are. see in Gaza now “This represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law on a large scale,” he said, adding that all this must stop “Enough is enough.” Earlier in March, Belgium made a similar announcement, saying it would submit a request to the International Court of Justice, but Foreign Minister Hajja Habib clarified that Belgium's potential participation "is not linked to a bias in favor of or against this or that party,” but rather an attempt to “reinforce the universality of international agreements to which States are parties.” In favor of Israel The only country that has so far committed to intervening in the International Court of Justice case in support of Israel is its powerful ally Germany, which issued the announcement on January 12, before the Court issues its initial decisions. In a statement, German government spokesman Stephen Hebstreit said Berlin “strongly and frankly rejects the accusations of genocide,” adding that “they have absolutely no basis.”
