اتخذت الجامعات في الولايات المتحدة منحى أكثر صرامة في التعامل مع الاحتجاجات الطلابية التي تتزايد يوما بعد يوم في ربوع البلاد، خاصة وأن تقارير إعلامية كشفت عن حالة من الصدمة شعرت بها الإدارات المختلفة بسبب توسع التظاهرات وشدتها

وذكر موقع أكسيوس الأمريكي أنه حتى 26 أبريل الجاري تم اعتقال قرابة 600 شخص في 15 حرما جامعيا في أنحاء البلاد خلال أقل من عشرة أيام

وبعد أن أدلت رئيسة جامعة كولومبيا مينوش شفيق وهي أميركية من أصل مصري بشهادتها أمام الكونغرس والتي اتخذت موقفا ينسجم مع النواب الذين يشجبون الاحتجاجات رد الطلاب بإقامة معسكر للاعتصام في حرم الجامعة منذ 17 أبريل، ما دفعها في اليوم التالي لطلب الشرطة بهدف تفكيك المعسكر
ومنذ ذلك الحين، ظهرت مخيمات واعتصامات تضامنية للطلاب ضد الحرب في غزة في جميع أنحاء البلاد، وهي مستمرة منذ أكثر من ستة أشهر، لكنها تصاعدت مع أحداث الأسبوع الماضي

أبرز مطالب المحتجين

هدف الطلاب الرئيسي من الاحتجاجات هو دفع جامعاتهم لقطع العلاقات مع الشركات المرتبطة ماليا مع إسرائيل وتلك التي تدعم الحرب في غزة

كما دعت المنظمة الطلابية لنزع العنصرية في جامعة كولومبيا لإنهاء أعمال الشرطة في الحرم الجامعي وقطع العلاقات مع المؤسسات الأكاديمية الإسرائيلية

وفي جامعة جنوب كاليفورنيا دعت إحدى الائتلافات الطلابية إلى العفو الكامل عن الطلاب والموظفين وأعضاء هيئة التدريس الذين تم تأديبهم بسبب نشاطهم المؤيد للفلسطينيين

أسباب الاعتقالات

وكانت المعسكرات والاعتصامات سلمية إلى حد كبير، مع نسبة قليلة من أعمال العنف التي وقعت بعد تدخل الشرطة

معظم الاعتقالات كانت بداعي التعدي على ممتلكات الغير وهو ما دفع منظمات حقوقية مدنية مثل اتحاد الحريات المدنية الأمريكي في جورجيا لوصف تلك الاعتقلاات بأنها "حملات قمع غير دستورية ضد التعبير والاحتجاج
